The Test of Love and Hate
محبت اور بغض کی آزمائش
لَوْ ضَرَبْتُ خَيْشُومَ الْمُؤْمِنِ بِسَيْفِي هذَا عَلَى أَنْ يُبْغِضَنِي مَا أَبْغَضَنِي، وَلَوْ صَبَبْتُ الدُّنْيَا بِجَمَّاتِهَا عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِ عَلَى أَنْ يُحِبَّنِي مَا أَحَبَّنِي.
اگر میں مومن کی ناک پر اپنی اس تلوار سے ضرب لگاؤں کہ وہ مجھ سے دشمنی کرے تو بھی وہ مجھ سے دشمنی نہیں کرے گا، اور اگر میں تمام دنیا (کی نعمتیں) منافق کے قدموں میں ڈال دوں کہ وہ مجھ سے محبت کرے تو بھی وہ مجھ سے محبت نہیں کرے گا۔
“Even if I strike the nose of a believer with this sword of mine to make him hate me, he will not hate me; and even if I pour all the riches of this world upon a hypocrite to make him love me, he will not love me.”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ refers to a famous prophetic tradition that “None loves Ali except a believer, and none hates Ali except a hypocrite.” He explains that these emotional leanings are rooted in the very essence of a person’s soul. A believer’s heart is naturally attracted to Truth and Justice, while a hypocrite’s heart is naturally repelled by it. No amount of worldly pain or worldly gain can change these fundamental spiritual alignments.
