Self-Respect and Greed

📜
Original Arabic •

Urdu Translation •

English Translation •

“He who thinks little of himself (lacks self-respect), do not expect any good from him.”

Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ identifies self-respect (Izzat-e-Nafs) as the foundation of all moral behavior. A person who does not value their own soul or dignity has no internal barrier to stop them from committing betrayal, lying, or acting basely. When a person loses their sense of honor, they become unpredictable and dangerous to others, as they no longer care about the spiritual or social consequences of their actions.
