Sin and Self-Pride
“A sin which makes you sad is better in the sight of Allah than a good deed which makes you feel proud (conceited).”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ identifies a subtle trap in the spiritual life. A good deed that leads to ‘Ujb (vanity or self-satisfaction) can distance a person from Allah by feeding their ego. In contrast, a mistake that leads to genuine remorse and humility brings the soul closer to Divine mercy. The state of the heart—its humility or its pride—is more significant than the outward form of the action.
