Fear and Failure
“Fear is coupled with disappointment (failure), and (misplaced) shame is coupled with deprivation.”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ identifies two internal barriers to success. First, **Fear** ($Haiba$): when you allow awe or terror of a task to overwhelm you, you are already halfway to failure. Second, **Misplaced Shame** ($Haya$): while modesty is a virtue, feeling “shy” about asking questions or seeking Truth leads to being deprived of knowledge. This wisdom encourages a balance of **Courage** and **Inquiry**—reminding us that the one who is too afraid to act or too shy to ask will never progress.
