The Scent of Piety

Original Arabic • متنِ عربی
الصَّدِيقُ مَنْ صَدَقَكَ، لاَ مَنْ صَدَّقَكَ.
Urdu Translation • اردو ترجمہ
سچا دوست وہ ہے جو تمہیں سچ بتائے (تمہاری اصلاح کرے)، نہ کہ وہ جو (ہر بات میں) تمہاری تصدیق کرے۔
English Translation • انگریزی ترجمہ
“A true friend is one who is honest with you, not one who just confirms (everything you say).”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ identifies the difference between a **Friend** and a **Flatterer**. A flatterer agrees with everything you do, even your mistakes, which leads to your downfall. A true friend, however, values your soul enough to be honest with you ($Sadaqaka$). They offer the “scent of piety” by helping you stay on the right path, even if the truth is uncomfortable to hear. True loyalty is shown in correction, not just in validation.
