Envy and Grief

📜
Original Arabic •

Urdu Translation •

English Translation •

“It is enough (punishment) for the envier that he is grieved when you are happy.”

Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ highlights that **Envy** is a unique sin because its punishment is built-in and immediate. While other sins might offer a temporary, fleeting pleasure, envy offers only pain. The envier’s heart is constantly constricted; they cannot enjoy their own blessings because they are too busy being pained by yours. This wisdom teaches us that to free ourselves from envy is to free ourselves from a self-imposed prison of eternal sorrow.
