The Poison of Vanity

📜
Original Arabic •

Urdu Translation •

English Translation •

“A person’s vanity (self-admiration) is a proof of the weakness of his intellect.”

Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ provides a profound psychological metric. He suggests that the more one is impressed by oneself, the less one truly understands. **Vanity ($Ujb$)** creates a veil that prevents a person from seeing their own flaws and the perfections of others. A “strong intellect” is always characterized by humility and the realization that there is always more to learn and ways to improve. To be satisfied with oneself is to stagnate.
