The Fatigue of the Heart
دلوں کی تھکن اور آرام
إِنَّ هذه الْقُلُوبَ تَمَلُّ كَمَا تَمَلُّ الْأَبْدَانُ، فَابْتَغُوا لَهَا طَرَائِفَ الْحِكْمَةِ.
یہ دل بھی اسی طرح تھک جاتے ہیں جس طرح بدن تھک جاتے ہیں، لہٰذا (ان کے لیے) لطیف حکیمانہ نکات تلاش کیا کرو۔
“These hearts get tired just as bodies get tired; so seek for them beautiful, wise sayings (as a means of rest).”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ provides a profound insight into mental health and spiritual burnout. Continuous serious work or dry academic study can exhaust the “heart” (the intellect and emotions). To prevent this fatigue, we are encouraged to seek out “Tara’if” — light, beautiful, and witty wisdom. This teaches us that humor and beauty are not distractions from a religious life, but essential tools for maintaining a balanced and healthy mind.
