Illness and Purification
بیماری اور گناہوں کا جھڑنا
جَعَلَ اللهُ مَا كَانَ مِنْ شَكْوَاكَ حَطّاً لِذُنُوبِكَ، فَإِنَّ الْمَرَضَ لاَ أَجْرَ فِيهِ، وَلكِنَّهُ يَحُطُّ السَّيِّئَاتِ، وَيَحُتُّهَا حَتَّ الْأَوْرَاقِ.
اللہ تمہاری اس بیماری کو تمہارے گناہوں کا کفارہ قرار دے، کیونکہ خود بیماری میں کوئی ثواب نہیں ہے، بلکہ وہ گناہوں کو مٹاتی ہے اور انہیں اس طرح جھاڑ دیتی ہے جیسے (خزاں میں) درخت سے پتے جھڑتے ہیں۔
“May Allah make your illness a means of shedding your sins. For indeed, there is no reward in sickness itself, but it washes away sins and sheds them as leaves fall from a tree.”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ offers a unique insight into the nature of hardship. He clarifies that illness is not an “action” for which one earns a wage (reward), but rather a Divine process of cleaning. Just as a tree is lightened when its dead leaves fall, a believer is lightened and spiritually refreshed when their sins are removed through the patience shown during physical trials.
