The Tongue and the Heart
“The tongue of a wise man is behind his heart, and the heart of a fool is behind his tongue.”
Reflections: This saying provides a timeless lesson in emotional intelligence and self-restraint. Imam Ali ؑ explains that a wise person processes thoughts internally (in the heart/mind) before allowing them to reach the tongue. Conversely, a fool speaks impulsively and only realizes the weight of their words after they have been uttered. True wisdom is defined by the ability to filter speech through reflection.
