إِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى أَحَدٍ أَعَارَتْهُ مَحَاسِنَ غَيْرِهِ، وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ عَنْهُ سَلَبَتْهُ مَحَاسِنَ نَفْسِهِ.
جب دنیا کسی کی طرف رخ کرتی ہے تو دوسروں کی خوبیاں بھی اسے ادھار دے دیتی ہے، اور جب اس سے پیٹھ پھیر لیتی ہے تو خود اس کی اپنی خوبیاں بھی اس سے چھین لیتی ہے۔
“When the world turns towards someone, it lends them the virtues of others; and when it turns away from them, it snatches away even their own virtues.”
Reflections: This Hekmat is a masterclass in social psychology. Imam Ali (as) observes that when a person becomes successful or wealthy, people tend to attribute every good quality to them—even qualities they don’t possess. Conversely, when a person loses their status, the world becomes so blind to their worth that even their genuine talents and virtues are ignored or forgotten.
