Thought and Speech
“The heart of a fool is in his mouth, and the tongue of a wise man is in his heart.”
Reflections: This saying carries the same deep meaning as Hekmat 40 but uses a different metaphor. To say a fool’s heart is in his mouth means his feelings and secrets are always exposed without thought. To say a wise man’s tongue is in his heart means his speech is “contained” and “protected” by his intellect. It is a reminder that the quality of our character is often judged by the distance between our thoughts and our words.
