The Neutrality of Falsehood
“Imam Ali (as) said about those who kept aloof from fighting on his side: They have abandoned the Truth, but they have not assisted Falsehood either.”
Reflections: This saying refers to individuals who remained neutral during a time of clear conflict between right and wrong. While they did not actively join the side of falsehood, Imam Ali (as) points out that failing to support the truth when it is under attack is itself a form of betrayal. True virtue is not just avoiding evil, but actively standing with the truth.
