The Change of Fortune
دنیا کی تبدیلی
إِذَا أَقْبَلَتِ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى أَحَدٍ أَعَارَتْهُ مَحَاسِنَ غَيْرِهِ، وَإِذَا أَدْبَرَتْ عَنْهُ سَلَبَتْهُ مَحَاسِنَ نَفْسِهِ.
جب دنیا کسی کی طرف رخ کرتی ہے (مہربان ہوتی ہے) تو دوسروں کی خوبیاں بھی اسے ادھار دے دیتی ہے، اور جب اس سے پیٹھ پھیر لیتی ہے تو خود اس کی اپنی خوبیاں بھی اس سے چھین لیتی ہے۔
“When the world turns towards someone (in favor), it lends him the merits of others; and when it turns away from him, it strips him of his own merits.”
Reflections: This saying highlights the fickle nature of social perception and worldly success. When a person is successful, people tend to credit them with virtues they might not even possess. However, when that same person falls from favor, even their genuine talents and good qualities are often ignored or denied by the world. It is a reminder to seek validation from Allah rather than the ever-changing opinions of people.
