The Balance of Hope
“The true jurist (scholar) is he who does not make people despair of the mercy of Allah, nor makes them lose hope in His grace, nor makes them feel entirely secure from His plan (divine trial).”
Reflections: Imam Ali ؑ defines the ideal spiritual guide as one who maintains a perfect balance. Despair leads to spiritual death, while overconfidence leads to arrogance and neglect. A true scholar helps people walk the thin line between Hope and Fear—keeping them motivated by God’s infinite mercy while remaining vigilant of their own shortcomings. It is a lesson in moderate and healthy spiritual growth.
