The Complete Story of Hazrat Lut (A.S.)

Hazrat Lut (A.S.)

The Prophet Who Warned Against Immorality

The complete and detailed story of Prophet Lut (A.S.), his mission to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, the trials he faced, and the destruction that befell those who rejected his message. Includes comprehensive Urdu video resources.

Hazrat Lut (A.S.), known as Lot in the Bible and other religious texts, was one of the most important prophets in Islamic history. He was the nephew and companion of the great Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), whom he deeply loved, respected, and supported in his mission to establish monotheism. Throughout his life, Lut remained a faithful follower of his uncle's teachings and shared his commitment to guiding people toward the worship of Allah alone.

Lut was born during the time of Prophet Ibrahim and grew up in an environment of faith and spiritual guidance. He witnessed his uncle's struggles against idolatry and his unwavering commitment to the message of Tawheed (monotheism). This upbringing shaped Lut's character and prepared him for his own prophetic mission. When Ibrahim and Lut traveled together, spreading the message of Islam across different lands, they faced constant rejection and opposition from the people around them.

During their migration to Palestine, Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) chose Lut to be a prophet and messenger for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were located in the region near the Dead Sea, in what is now part of Jordan and Palestine. Allah directed Lut to travel to Sodom and undertake the difficult task of guiding a people who had strayed far from the path of righteousness.

Surah Al-An'am (6:86)

"And Lot, We gave him judgment and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing abominations. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient."

This verse acknowledges Lut's status as a prophet and his role in warning the people of Sodom.

Lut accepted his prophetic mission with faith and determination, knowing that he would face tremendous challenges in a city that had become notorious for its moral corruption and depravity. He left his uncle Ibrahim and traveled to Sodom to begin his mission of calling the people to righteousness and the worship of Allah.

Prophet Lut's Story - Introduction اردو

Sodom was a thriving and prosperous city that served as a major hub for merchants, traders, and travelers. The city's strategic location made it an important center for commerce, and it attracted people from various regions who came to conduct business and trade. On the surface, Sodom appeared to be a successful and flourishing city with considerable material wealth and development.

However, beneath this veneer of prosperity lay a deeply corrupt and morally depraved society. Sodom had become infamous for its criminal activities and immoral practices. Travelers passing through the city were often waylaid and robbed of their belongings. Highway robbery was rampant, and many travelers were mercilessly murdered for their possessions. The city had become a haven for criminals and those engaged in all manner of evil deeds.

But the most notorious and defining characteristic of Sodom was the practice of homosexuality. According to Islamic sources, the people of Sodom were the first in human history to engage in this practice on such a widespread and systematic scale. Homosexuality was not merely tolerated in Sodom; it was the norm and the predominant practice among the people. Men openly engaged in homosexual acts without shame or remorse, and the entire population participated in or condoned this behavior.

What made the situation even more grave was that the people of Sodom were not only engaged in this immoral practice but were also proud of it. They spoke openly about their actions and engaged in these behaviors publicly, without any sense of shame or guilt. They had completely abandoned the natural order of creation and had rejected the moral and spiritual guidance that should have guided human behavior.

Surah Al-A'raf (7:80-81)

"And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, 'Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.' And his people's only response was to say, 'Evict them from your city! Indeed, these are people who keep themselves pure.'"

This verse describes the depravity of the people of Sodom and their rejection of Lut's message.

The people of Sodom had also abandoned the worship of Allah and had turned to idolatry and the worship of false gods. They had no regard for morality, justice, or the rights of others. The society was characterized by a complete breakdown of moral values and a rejection of divine guidance. It was into this deeply corrupt environment that Prophet Lut arrived with his message of monotheism and moral reformation.

The Corruption of Sodom and Gomorrah اردو

When Prophet Lut arrived in Sodom, he immediately began his mission to call the people to the worship of Allah and to guide them away from their immoral practices. He approached the men of the city and reminded them of their Lord, emphasizing that he was a trustworthy messenger sent by Allah to guide them toward righteousness.

Lut's message was clear and direct. He called upon the people to fear Allah and to obey His commands. He emphasized that he sought no reward from them for his preaching; his only reward came from Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. He urged the people to abandon their immoral practices and to return to the path of righteousness and moral virtue.

Surah Ash-Shu'ara (26:160-163)

"The people of Lot rejected the Messengers, branding them liars. Recall, when their brother Lut said to them: 'Have you no fear? I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. So fear Allah and obey me. I seek of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe.'"

This passage shows Lut's sincere appeal to his people and his emphasis on seeking no material reward.

Lut specifically addressed the issue of homosexuality, which was the most prevalent sin in Sodom. He asked the people why they would approach men with desire instead of women, whom Allah had created as their rightful companions. He reminded them that this practice was unnatural and contrary to the order of creation. He warned them that this behavior was a transgression against the laws of Allah and against human nature itself.

Lut's preaching was characterized by patience, compassion, and a sincere desire to save his people from destruction. He did not approach his mission with anger or condemnation but with a genuine concern for their spiritual welfare. He repeatedly warned them of the severe punishment that would befall them if they continued in their immoral ways and rejected the message of Allah.

Surah Al-Ankabut (29:28-29)

"And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, 'Indeed, you approach men with desire instead of women. Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly. But the answer of his people was only that they said, 'Expel the family of Lot from your city. Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure.'"

This verse shows how the people of Sodom responded to Lut's message with rejection and hostility.

Despite Lut's sincere efforts and his patient preaching, the people of Sodom refused to listen to his message. Instead of accepting his guidance, they mocked him and ridiculed his warnings. They conspired to drive him out of the city, threatening to expel him and his family if he did not cease his preaching against their practices.

Prophet Lut's Message to His People اردو

Throughout his mission in Sodom, Prophet Lut faced tremendous isolation and loneliness. Despite his years of preaching and his sincere efforts to guide the people toward righteousness, not a single person from the general population of Sodom accepted his message and embraced faith in Allah. The entire city remained steadfastly committed to their immoral practices and their rejection of divine guidance.

The only household in Sodom that believed in Lut's message and remained faithful to Allah was his own family. His daughters, who were righteous and virtuous women, believed in their father's message and supported him in his mission. They understood the importance of his preaching and the truth of his warnings about the consequences of the people's immoral behavior.

However, Lut's wife presented a different case. Despite living with a prophet and witnessing his dedication to the message of Allah, Lut's wife did not believe in him. She chose the path of disbelief and remained aligned with the corrupt society of Sodom. This was a source of great sorrow for Lut, as his own wife rejected the truth that he was preaching.

Surah At-Tahrim (66:10)

"Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed them. So those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, 'Enter the Fire with those who enter.'"

This verse mentions Lut's wife as an example of a disbeliever who rejected the truth despite being married to a prophet.

The situation of Lut was unique among the prophets. He was preaching to a people who were so deeply entrenched in their immoral practices that they showed no inclination whatsoever to accept his message. The entire city stood united in their rejection of his preaching. Even his own wife, who should have been his closest supporter, chose to remain with the disbelievers.

Faced with this overwhelming rejection and isolation, Lut turned to Allah in prayer. He raised his hands to the heavens and supplicating to Allah, saying, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people." This prayer reflected Lut's deep faith in Allah and his trust that Allah would ultimately provide him with help and support, even though he was surrounded by those who rejected his message.

The Trial of Isolation

Lut's experience demonstrates one of the most difficult trials that a prophet can face: the complete rejection of his message by an entire society, combined with the betrayal of his own family member. Yet despite this overwhelming adversity, Lut remained steadfast in his faith and continued to call people to the path of Allah until the very end.

Lut's Family and His Struggle اردو

When the people of Sodom continued in their rejection of Lut's message and showed no signs of repentance, Allah decided that the time for punishment had come. Allah sent three angels, including the Archangel Gabriel, to execute His judgment upon the people of Sodom. These angels were initially sent to Prophet Ibrahim as guests, but their ultimate mission was to destroy the corrupt cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The angels arrived at Ibrahim's house in the form of handsome young men. Ibrahim, not recognizing them as angels, welcomed them warmly and prepared a grand feast for his guests. However, when the angels refused to eat the food that Ibrahim had prepared, Ibrahim became concerned and asked them about their true identity. The angels then revealed their true nature and informed Ibrahim of their mission to destroy the people of Sodom.

Surah Al-Hijr (15:57-60)

"He said, 'What is your business then, O messengers?' They said, 'We have been sent to a people who are criminals, to send down upon them stones of baked clay, marked from your Lord for the transgressors.'"

This verse describes the angels revealing their mission to destroy the people of Sodom.

After leaving Ibrahim's house, the angels proceeded toward Sodom, still disguised as handsome young men. When they arrived at the city, Lut's daughter, who was a believer, saw these three strangers entering the city. Knowing the evil nature of the people of Sodom and fearing for the safety of these young men, she immediately ran to her father and informed him of the three men who had entered the city.

Lut was deeply concerned about the safety of these strangers, as he knew that the men of Sodom would attempt to harm them and commit immoral acts against them. He went to meet the angels and welcomed them to his home, offering them hospitality and protection. Lut was deeply troubled by the situation, as he knew that the people of Sodom would soon come to his house demanding access to the young men.

Surah Al-Ankabut (29:31-32)

"And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. He said, 'This is a difficult day.' And his people came hastening toward him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds. He said, 'O my people, these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?'"

This verse shows Lut's distress when the angels arrived and his attempt to protect them from the people of Sodom.

As Lut had feared, the men of Sodom soon learned of the arrival of the three young men. They came to Lut's house in great numbers, demanding that he hand over the strangers so that they could commit immoral acts against them. Lut was faced with an impossible situation: he had to protect his guests while also trying to convince the people of Sodom to abandon their evil intentions.

The Angels Arrive in Sodom اردو

When the men of Sodom surrounded Lut's house demanding access to the young men, Lut made one final desperate attempt to convince them to abandon their evil intentions. He pleaded with them to fear Allah and to respect the laws of hospitality and human decency. He offered them his own daughters instead, suggesting that they marry and have lawful relations with them according to the natural order of creation.

Lut's offer was not motivated by a desire to harm his daughters but rather by his attempt to redirect the people of Sodom away from their immoral practices toward something that, while still not ideal in the context of his mission, was at least lawful and natural. His offer was a desperate attempt to save his guests from harm and to appeal to whatever sense of morality might still exist in the hearts of the people of Sodom.

Surah Al-A'raf (7:80-84)

"And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, 'Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.' And his people's only response was to say, 'Evict them from your city! Indeed, these are people who keep themselves pure.' And We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the disbelievers]. And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals."

This passage describes the people's final defiance and Allah's decision to destroy them.

However, the people of Sodom were so deeply entrenched in their immoral practices that they refused even this offer. They continued to demand access to the young men and showed complete contempt for Lut and his message. They mocked him and ridiculed his attempts to guide them toward righteousness. They even threatened to expel him from the city if he did not cease his preaching and hand over the strangers to them.

The people of Sodom had reached a point of no return. They had rejected Lut's message repeatedly over many years. They had shown no inclination whatsoever to repent or to change their ways. They had even rejected his final desperate plea to abandon their immoral practices. At this point, Allah's patience with them had been exhausted, and the time for punishment had come.

Lut was deeply distressed by the situation. He had spent years preaching to this people, calling them to the worship of Allah and warning them of the consequences of their immoral behavior. Yet despite all his efforts, they remained unmoved and unrepentant. The burden of his mission weighed heavily upon him, and he felt the pain of their rejection and defiance.

The Point of No Return

The people of Sodom had crossed a line beyond which there could be no return. They had not only rejected the message of Allah but had also shown complete contempt for the messenger and for the basic principles of human decency and morality. Their defiance in the face of Lut's final plea demonstrated that they had become incorrigible and beyond redemption.

Lut's Final Warning to His People اردو

When the people of Sodom continued in their defiance and showed no signs of repentance, Allah commanded the angels to execute His judgment. The angels revealed their true identity to Lut and informed him that they were sent to destroy the city and its inhabitants. They commanded Lut to leave the city immediately with his family, except for his wife, who had chosen to remain with the disbelievers.

The angels warned Lut that he and his believing family must leave Sodom before sunrise. They were instructed not to look back at the city as they fled, and they were told that only those who believed in Lut's message would be saved. Lut's wife, who had rejected the message and remained aligned with the disbelievers, would not be saved from the punishment.

Surah Al-Qamar (54:33-38)

"The people of Lot denied the warning. We sent upon them a storm of stones [baked clay], except the family of Lot; We saved them in the hours before dawn, as a favor from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. And he had warned his people of Our seizure, but they disputed about the warning. And they had demanded his guests [for an evil purpose], so We obliterated their eyes. 'Taste then My punishment and My warning.' And there came to them in the morning after they had spent the night - a punishment that will not cease."

This passage describes the destruction of Sodom and the salvation of Lut and his believing family.

Lut immediately obeyed the command of the angels and began to flee the city with his daughters. As they were leaving, the angels struck the people of Sodom with blindness, preventing them from pursuing Lut and his family. The people of Sodom were left confused and helpless, unable to see or move effectively.

As Lut and his family fled the city, Allah unleashed a terrible punishment upon Sodom and Gomorrah. The Quran describes this punishment in various ways: as a storm of baked clay stones, as an earthquake, and as a rain of stones. The cities were completely destroyed, and all the inhabitants were killed. The punishment was so severe and complete that it became a warning and a lesson for all future generations.

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was not merely a physical destruction but a complete annihilation of the cities and their populations. The cities were buried beneath the earth, and their ruins became a testament to Allah's justice and His intolerance for such extreme moral corruption. The Dead Sea, which now occupies the area where Sodom and Gomorrah once stood, is a permanent reminder of this destruction.

Surah Al-Anbiya (21:71-74)

"And We saved him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. And We gave him Isaac and Jacob as additional [offspring], and all [of them] We made righteous. And We made them leaders guiding by Our command, and We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us."

This verse shows how Allah saved Lut and blessed him with righteous descendants.

One important detail in the story of Lut's escape is that his wife did not flee with him. She had chosen to remain with the disbelievers and was therefore caught in the punishment. As Lut and his daughters were fleeing, Lut's wife looked back at the city, which was against the command of the angels. She was caught in the destruction and perished along with the disbelievers of Sodom.

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah اردو

The Completeness of the Punishment

The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was total and complete. Not a single disbeliever was left alive. The cities were completely obliterated, and their inhabitants were all destroyed. This demonstrates the severity of Allah's punishment for those who persist in extreme moral corruption and who reject the message of the prophets.

Prophet Lut is remembered in Islamic tradition as a man of exceptional faith, patience, and moral courage. Despite facing overwhelming opposition and complete rejection from an entire society, he remained steadfast in his mission to call people to the worship of Allah and to guide them away from immoral practices. His character exemplified the highest virtues that a human being can possess.

One of Lut's most notable characteristics was his unwavering commitment to his mission despite the complete lack of success. For many years, he preached to the people of Sodom, warning them of the consequences of their immoral behavior and calling them to the worship of Allah. Yet not a single person from the general population accepted his message. Despite this complete failure to convert anyone, Lut did not give up or become discouraged. He continued his mission until the very end, demonstrating remarkable patience and perseverance.

Lut was also known for his moral integrity and his refusal to compromise his principles. When the people of Sodom demanded that he hand over his guests so that they could commit immoral acts against them, Lut refused absolutely. He was willing to face the anger and hostility of an entire city rather than allow harm to come to his guests. This demonstrates his commitment to the principles of hospitality and human decency.

Another important aspect of Lut's character was his compassion and his sincere desire to save his people from destruction. Even when the people of Sodom mocked him and threatened him, Lut continued to call them to righteousness with patience and compassion. He did not approach his mission with anger or a desire for revenge but with a genuine concern for their spiritual welfare and their salvation.

Surah Al-Ankabut (29:26)

"But Lot believed in him. He said, 'Indeed, I will emigrate to [the service of] my Lord. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.'"

This verse shows Lut's faith in Allah and his commitment to his mission despite the rejection he faced.

Lut's legacy extends far beyond his lifetime. His story serves as a powerful warning about the consequences of moral corruption and the rejection of divine guidance. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah became a lesson for all future generations about what happens when a society abandons morality and embraces practices that are contrary to the natural order of creation and the will of Allah.

In Islamic tradition, Lut is counted among the most important prophets and messengers of Allah. He is mentioned in the Quran numerous times, and his story is told in detail in several chapters. His example teaches believers about the importance of standing firm in the face of opposition, maintaining moral integrity, and never compromising one's principles, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be.
