The Story of Hazrat Shees (A.S.)

The Gift of Allah and the Successor to Adam (A.S.)

Introduction: The Gift of Allah

In the early days of humanity, when grief had settled upon the heart of Hazrat Adam (A.S.) following the tragic death of his beloved son Habil at the hands of his own brother Qabil, Allah (SWT) granted him a gift—a son who would become a beacon of guidance for generations to come. This son was Hazrat Shees (A.S.), whose very name means "Gift of Allah" (Hibatullah), a testament to the mercy and compassion of the Almighty.

Hazrat Shees (A.S.), also known as Seth in English, was the third son of Hazrat Adam (A.S.) and Hawwa (A.S.). He was born 130 years after his father's creation, at a time when humanity was still young and the world was being populated by the descendants of Adam (A.S.). Unlike his brothers Qabil and Habil, Shees (A.S.) would become a Prophet and Messenger of Allah, chosen to guide his people and preserve the teachings of his father.

💫 The Meaning of His Name: The name Shees (شيث) comes from the Arabic word "Sha'atha," which means "to grant" or "to appoint." Eve, his mother, named him Shees because she believed that Allah had appointed him as a replacement for Habil, her beloved son who had been murdered. This name carries the weight of hope, redemption, and divine mercy.

A Birth Marked by Divine Grace

When Hazrat Adam (A.S.) learned of the birth of Shees, his heart was filled with joy and gratitude. He had prayed to Allah for a righteous son who would help him in spreading the message of monotheism and guiding his people away from the path of sin that Qabil and his followers had chosen. Allah answered his prayers, and Shees was born as a gift from the Almighty.

From his earliest days, Shees (A.S.) showed signs of righteousness and piety. He was obedient to his father and devoted to the worship of Allah. While his brother Qabil had turned away from the path of righteousness and led many into sin, Shees remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to the teachings of his father.

💡 Lesson for Us:

The birth of Shees (A.S.) reminds us that Allah's mercy is infinite. Even in times of darkness and despair, Allah provides hope and guidance. When we face trials and losses, we should remain patient and faithful, trusting in Allah's wisdom.

The Chosen Successor

As Hazrat Adam (A.S.) grew old and his life on earth drew to a close, he recognized that the time had come to pass on his responsibilities to the next generation. Among all his children, he chose Shees (A.S.) as his successor—not because he was the eldest, but because he possessed the qualities necessary to lead his people: righteousness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to Allah.

The Final Counsel of Adam (A.S.)

Before his death, Hazrat Adam (A.S.) called Shees (A.S.) to his side and imparted to him invaluable knowledge and guidance. He taught him the specific hours of the day when he should worship Allah, times that had been revealed to him by the Almighty.

English Translation: "And indeed, We gave Adam the command before, but he forgot; and We found not upon him determination."
اردو ترجمہ: اور بیشک ہم نے آدم کو حکم دیا تھا لیکن وہ بھول گیا اور ہم نے اس میں (اس وقت) عزم نہ پایا
Surah Taha 20:115

Adam (A.S.) also gave Shees (A.S.) profound advice about life, faith, and leadership. He reminded him to always remember Allah in all his actions and to seek piety in his spouse. Most importantly, he warned Shees (A.S.) to stay away from Qabil and his followers, who had become disbelievers and were engaged in idol worship.

The Prophet and the Messenger

Hazrat Shees (A.S.) was not merely a righteous man; he was a Prophet chosen by Allah to convey His message. In Islamic tradition, Shees (A.S.) was both a Prophet and a Messenger, making him one of the most honored figures in Islamic history.

The Fifty Divine Scrolls

According to Islamic tradition, Hazrat Shees (A.S.) was given fifty scrolls (Sahifa) by Allah. These scrolls contained divine guidance and laws for his people. This made him the first Messenger to receive a new set of laws after Hazrat Adam (A.S.).

English Translation: "Indeed, this is in the former scriptures, the scriptures of Abraham and Moses."
اردو ترجمہ: بیشک یہ تو پہلی کتابوں میں ہے، ابراہیم اور موسیٰ کی کتابوں میں
Surah Al-A'ala 87:18-19

The Separation of the Righteous and the Wicked

During the time of Hazrat Shees (A.S.), humanity became divided. On one side were the followers of Shees (A.S.), who lived in the mountains and dedicated themselves to the worship of Allah. On the other side were the descendants of Qabil, who lived in the plains and had turned towards idol worship and sin.

⛰️ The Mountain Dwellers: The followers of Shees (A.S.) were sometimes called "the people of the mountains" because they chose to live in elevated areas to practice their faith away from corrupting influences.

The First Test: Music and Adultery

Despite Shees's efforts, Iblis (Satan) devised a cunning scheme. He whispered to the descendants of Qabil, inspiring them to create something that had never existed before: music and musical instruments.

The Deception of Satan

The women of Qabil's tribe, under the influence of Iblis, used music and beauty as a tool of seduction. Gradual curiosity led some men from Shees's tribe to sneak away to these gatherings, where they were exposed to sin and corruption. This led to widespread adultery and fornication.

💡 Lesson for Us:

Sin often comes gradually through small compromises. We must be vigilant about the influences we allow into our lives. The tools used then—music, beauty, and social pressure—are still used today.

A Life of Devotion and a Lasting Legacy

Hazrat Shees (A.S.) remained steadfast. Some narrations suggest he lived for over 900 years. He was succeeded by his son Anush, continuing the line of Prophets in Islam leading to Hazrat Noah (A.S.) and ultimately Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).

Timeless Lessons

1. Preparation & Succession

Hazrat Adam (A.S.) carefully prepared Shees (A.S.) to be his successor, teaching him the importance of passing down knowledge.

2. Character Over Birth

True leadership comes from moral character and devotion to Allah, not just being the eldest.

3. Avoiding Bad Company

Shees (A.S.) taught the importance of surrounding ourselves with righteous people to protect our faith.

Conclusion: The Gift That Keeps Giving

Hazrat Shees (A.S.) was a gift to all humanity. He preserved the foundations of faith and established a community of believers. Like him, we must remain steadfast in our faith and work to pass on the teachings of IslamicHub.me to the next generation.

English Translation: "And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient..."
اردو ترجمہ: اور ہم نے ان میں سے ایسے لوگوں کو رہنما بنایا جو ہمارے حکم سے ہدایت دیتے تھے جب وہ صبر کرتے تھے
Surah As-Sajdah 32:24
