1. Actions that Void Prayer in All Cases
۱۔ وہ امور جو ہر حال میں نماز توڑ دیتے ہیں
Hadath (Breaking Purification): Whether done intentionally or by mistake, if a person’s Wudhu or Ghusl breaks (e.g., passing gas or sleeping), the prayer is void immediately.
حدث (وضو کا ٹوٹنا): چاہے جان بوجھ کر ہو یا بھول کر، اگر نماز کے دوران وضو ٹوٹ جائے تو نماز باطل ہو جاتی ہے۔
Surat-e-Namaz (Form of Prayer): Any action that makes an observer think you are not praying (e.g., jumping, clapping, or long silence) voids the prayer, regardless of intention.
صورتِ نماز کا بگڑنا: کوئی بھی ایسا فعل جس سے دیکھنے والا کہے کہ یہ شخص نماز نہیں پڑھ رہا (مثلاً اچھلنا یا ناچنا) نماز کو باطل کر دیتا ہے۔
2. Actions that Void Prayer if Intentional
۲۔ وہ امور جو قصداً انجام دینے سے نماز توڑتے ہیں
Intentional Speaking: Speaking even a single word (even if it has meaning like ‘Oh’) voids the prayer. However, Zikr and Dua are allowed and do not break the prayer.
دانستہ کلام: جان بوجھ کر ایک لفظ بولنا بھی نماز توڑ دیتا ہے۔ البتہ اللہ کا ذکر اور دعا مانگنے سے نماز نہیں ٹوٹتی۔
Intentional Laughing/Crying: A loud laugh (Gahgahah) voids the prayer. Crying for worldly matters (like loss of money) also breaks it, but crying for fear of Allah is highly rewarded.
ہنسنا اور رونا: آواز کے ساتھ ہنسنا نماز کو توڑ دیتا ہے۔ دنیاوی غم میں رونا بھی مبطل ہے، لیکن خوفِ خدا میں رونا بہترین عبادت ہے۔
3. Technical Prohibitions (Takfeer & Amen)
۳۔ مخصوص فقہی مبطلات
Takfeer (Folding Arms): Placing one hand over the other as a sign of reverence (Takfeer) voids the prayer according to Ja’fari Fiqh, unless done in a state of Taqiyyah (precautionary concealment).
تکفیر (ہاتھ باندھنا): نماز میں ہاتھ باندھ کر کھڑے ہونا (بغیر تقیہ) شیعہ فقہ میں نماز کو باطل کر دیتا ہے۔
Saying ‘Amen’: Deliberately saying ‘Amen’ after Surah al-Hamd is a nullifier. The correct practice is to say “Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin”.
آمین کہنا: سورہ حمد کے بعد جان بوجھ کر ‘آمین’ کہنا نماز کو باطل کرتا ہے۔ مستحب ہے کہ ‘الحمد للہ رب العالمین’ کہا جائے۔
Important Tip: If you realize you made a mistake that didn’t void a “Rukn” (Pillar) of the prayer, you may be able to fix it with Sajdah-e-Sahw. But if you added or missed a Pillar (like Ruku), the prayer must be repeated.
Ahadith on the Nullifiers of Prayer
نماز کو باطل کرنے والے امور پر فرامینِ معصومینؑ
Amir al-Mu’mineen Imam Ali (as)
فرمانِ امیر المومنین حضرت علیؑ
“Talking in prayer breaks the prayer, but the remembrance of Allah (Zikr) is not talking.”
“نماز میں کلام کرنا نماز کو توڑ دیتا ہے، لیکن اللہ کا ذکر کلام (بات چیت) میں شمار نہیں ہوتا۔”

Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (as)
حضرت امام جعفر صادقؑ
“A loud laugh (Qahqahah) spoils the prayer, though it does not break the Wudhu.”
“قہقہہ (آواز کے ساتھ ہنسنا) نماز کو باطل کر دیتا ہے، اگرچہ اس سے وضو نہیں ٹوٹتا۔”

“Crying for the worldly things voids the prayer, but crying out of fear for Allah is a sign of great reward.”
“دنیاوی امور کے لیے رونا نماز کو باطل کرتا ہے، لیکن اللہ کے خوف سے رونا عظیم اجر کا باعث ہے۔”

حضرت امام جعفر صادقؑ
“Turning the face away from the Qibla intentionally severs the connection with the Lord.”
“جان بوجھ کر قبلہ سے رخ موڑ لینا اپنے رب کے ساتھ تعلق کو توڑ دینے کے مترادف ہے۔”
Summary: These sayings emphasize that prayer is a sacred presence. Anything that shifts your focus from the Creator to the Creation (worldly talk, worldly crying, or physical distractions) acts as a barrier to the prayer’s acceptance.
